Tom is a retired attorney who spent sixteen years as a Contra Costa County Supervisor. He is married to his lovely wife Donna and they have three grown children.
Although Tom was trained as an attorney, he comes from a long line of farmers on both sides of his parents’ families.
His grandfather, on his mother’s side, Thomas W. Mabrey, settled in the Imperial Valley of California on the Mexican border, raising cotton in 1911.
This same relative also started a dairy farm and supplied milk to the Golden State Creamery. Tom’s father’s parents, Thomas W. Powers and Ida Powers were orange growers in Florida starting in 1910.
Tom’s vineyards in the Alhambra Valley produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Viognier, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay and he plans to plant more premium wine grapes.
Tom also produces extra virgin olive oil on The Powers Ranch and sells it under the Alhambra Valley Olive Oil Company name.
