About the Farmer:
Tom Powers,
who has lived his whole life in California, currently lives and
farms in the beautiful Alhambra Valley of Contra Costa County,
California. Tom is a retired attorney who spent sixteen years
as a Contra Costa County Supervisor. He and his lovely wife Donna
and have three grown children.
Although Tom
was trained as an attorney, he comes from a long line of farmers
on both sides of his parents’ families. On his mother’s side, his
grandfather, Thomas W. Mabrey, settled in 1911 in the Imperial
Valley of California on the Mexican border to raise cotton. He
then established a dairy farm that supplied milk to the Golden
State Creamery. Tom’s father’s parents, Thomas W. Powers
and Ida Powers, began growing oranges in Florida in 1910. |
